This is a mock up example of what i would like my magazine cover to look like in a very basic, not to scale sketch. This provides a rough idea on the construction of where each thing is going to go
This is what i plan to have my DPS looking like when it is completed, providing a quick outline to work with when i begin to create.

This is what i plan to have my contents page layed out and it follows the principles of Thrasher Magazine.

PRODUCTION PLAN

November- In November I plan to create my planning work for the assignment, beginning with analysis's of existing music magazines and
begin to get an idea for how magazines work and the design within them. I will research existing magazines content including, Design, layout, writing, marketing etc. for the front cover, DPS and contents page. I will also create various move boards for colour design and masthead fonts, ready for when i start to make my magazine.
Late November/ December- I will now move onto starting to create my actual magazine while having a substantial amount of coursework and understanding of the design of magazines to begin. I want to create a masthead in Photoshop, take my photos for all of my images (including thumbnails) and begin to experiment with constructions. Nearer the end of December i plan to make the finishing touches to the magazine to boost my grade as high as possible. By the end of December all 3 of my products will completely finished.

January- In January i will start to to develop my evaluation work for the project, talking about what i did in the previous months of working on this course while still making minor adjustments to my final pieces along the way to try and boost my mark.

Main image

This is my original, un edited front cover image which has been taken on a plain black background with a 2 part lighting in a studio. I used a digital SLR camera to get maximised HD professional quality.

Location, Props and Costume

I will take photos of my subjects in a studio with no ambient lighting, just artificial to create a studio effect just like in real magazines. This artificial lighting will allow a clear high definition image to be used. I will take my images using a Digital SLR camera to get maximized quality with enhanced Photoshop editing afterwards.

My subject will be wearing fashionable skateboard orientated clothing brands to create a typical representation and advancing the overall brand identity. There will also be an image of a snowboarder in branded goggles, helmet, coat and snowboard which then classify s the typical snowboarder.

There will be a few props used such as the use of drumsticks in the main images hand on the front cover and my drum kit on the double page spread and front cover. The use of these props simply is to identify that there will be a drum element/ theme to the magazine and the drum set is there simply to establish that.

Original Ideas Statement

My original ideas are to create a contemporary rock and skateboard orientated front cover, double-page spread and contents page for my own magazine entitled Motion Magazine. The title Motion Magazine is making reference to the fact that music is a motion or has a motion and also links to the skate/ snowboard theme as they are both art forms that express motion.
My colour scheme will include large uses of dark grey and yellow but the grey will still dominate, and also a small use of pearly blue as that is the colour of my drum set will be used as an image. This will apply across all 3 products and they will all also include an appropriate use of black and white, mainly within text and strokes.
My magazine will target a younger target audience with a range from 14-28 years old focusing on some mainstream rock and some quirky indie music/ bands that the youth are currently listening to in this day and age. Most of the music that i want to include is very popular within the skateboard industry as rock, indie and hip-hop is largely popular.
I will use representation within my images as the subjected people in my images will wear suitable fashionable clothing that young people will want to wear, especially in the skateboard industry as there is a large market for clothing and fashion. My subject will also be holding a set of drum sticks which makes links to the drumming theme in contrast with the skate/ snowboard theme.

Masthead title ideas

This is my final three ides for my title as you can see above. These titles are gripping and bold, capturing the viewers attention immediately. I have decided to use motion magazine as the design of the title is better and it makes reference to skating as it is a motion as a whole.

Target Audience Mood Board

This is my target audience mood board which depicts the type of people that this magazine will aim towards. It is a rock magazine therefor, becoming aimed at scruffy looking males and females, more aiming at the male gender (Referring to survey). There, again, is a skateboard theme so i have shown some typical skateboard clothes, even making reference to rolled up jeans as it is a large part of skateboard fashion (how you wear your clothing, not necessarily what brand your wearing.)

Mood Board - Colours

These are ideas for the colour scheme of my magazine all together. I have chosen these as they are the most effective at capturing the eye of the reader but also not being over enthusiastic and in your face. The black and white will allow the colours to stand out very well. After consideration, i have decided to us the top, yellow, white and black scheme because of majority votes in my research process.

Mood Board - Advertisers

This is a concept of skateboard brands of which i have merged together in a Photoshop format, this gives the viewer an idea of some of the iconic skateboard brands that could be included in the magazine. My magazine has a small skateboard theme within the double page spread including a skateboarder who became a musician (drummer); all photos will be primary.

Mood Board - Fonts

These are my initial thoughts on how i want to present my fonts. I like these fonts because they are bold and instantly capture the audiences attention which is the penultimate aim. These fonts provide and broken damaged look to the magazine which i wanted to achieve because my magazine has a rock theme.
